Clarkophile

The Clarkophile is a blog devoted to the songwriting of Gene Clark (born Harold Eugene Clark, November 17, 1944, Tipton, MO). It began as a means of channeling my wildly disorganized thoughts about Gene’s astonishing facility with words and melody. Of course, using a public blog to organize my personal thoughts might appear somewhat disingenuous, but the knowledge that others might read my words presented the kind of much-needed motivation I needed to start writing. It was also my wish that the entries might somehow stand as a living testament to Gene Clark’s legacy. Above all, The Clarkophile was to be a reflection of my respect and admiration for an artist & poet whose work changed the course of my life. When I started the blog back in 2008, I had a full-time job with benefits, and had no desire whatsoever to profit off of Gene’s name or work. Now, 12 years later, as an aging, reluctant participant in the gig economy, I find myself in a much more precarious state, financially speaking. I am, however, still committed to my work on the blog. The dream of a Clarkophile book never materialized, but my affection for Gene’s work remains undiminished.
