Though I was able to accomplish much of my research thanks to a generous Fellowship from Middlebury and private donors, there is still much research to be done on the individual wine doors and their history, which will require significant time in public and private archives located in Florence, Italy. I'm seeking your help so I can complete this passion project by returning to Florence and conclude the required research.
The Wine Doors of Florence is a street photography project showcasing modern Florence through these forgotten historical landmarks. The book will include photos of each Wine Door (over 150 are known to exist) and several street scenes showing the doors in their current contexts. In addition, it will include the history of the families who resided in the Florentine palazzi adorned by the Wine Doors, answering the questions: Who lived behind that little Wine Door? What wines did they sell? THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT. This is the next step to creating the guidebook I've been dreaming about for years.
