Site hosting cost $708.42 this year. That doesn't include the $1160 I spent for a new site design last year. I love writing stories and I want to present it with as much control as possible. Managing my own sites is the best way of doing that without having to compromise my vision because of platform limitations or TOS. But y'know... I gotta eat!
