We are a registered charity located in Leeman, Western Australia. Our charity is run entirely of 100% volunteer power. Charitable Collections License# 22194 As one of the few registered charities in Leeman and surrounding areas, our reach is multi-focused. According to the 2016 Census, residents of Leeman, Green Head and Eneabba are living below the WA poverty line. The committee of the Snag Island Community Garden (SICG), believe that access to nutritious food is a basic human right no matter where you live in Australia. We are committed to responding to the needs of our community as well as the broader communities, not only through food distribution and support, but also by bringing the whole community together as one and be able to share knowledge, grow plants and learn new skills to improve the function of our local environment. We have outgrown our current food storage facilities, which is why we are now asking for everyone's help. (we have been using a room at the local recreation centre) Since we started operating in 2017 we have supplied over 750 kilos of food to people in need. We have received no government funding to supply people with food. Some of the people that have attended our Food Co-op have traveled over 100 kilometers from home and back again. We have people attending from the shires of Carnamah, the shire of Dandaragan, and the shire of Coorow as well as other shires. We currently have over 60 people that have registered for food help. We know that this number will grow, especially getting closer to Christmas. We are now asking for everyone's help, for us to be able to obtain a bigger building, which will enable us to be able to store more food as well as run our Food Co-op (Food Bank) from. At the moment our volunteers travel vast distances (over 300 kilometers round trip) to purchase the food. If we were to get a bigger storage facility, we would then be able to store more food, including frozen bread throughout the month to make up emergency food hampers as well as purchase food for our Food Co-op when it is on special. Meaning we can have more of a variety and our volunteers wouldn't have to travel so much as we will have the storage space. Please help us to help all the people in need
