Friends of Frugaldom is an online group for those of you who want to help support our sanctuary, rewilding and nature projects at Frugaldom. Previously clear-felled, the land here is now being partially planted as native woodland and part of it set aside as marshland for nature conservation.
Friends of Frugaldom have access to regular updates, news, videos and photos of what's happening on a daily basis, and are welcome to visit Frugaldom any time. While here, you can help with the sanctuary animals, carry out wildlife surveillance, do some wildlife gardening, help create new habitat, build feeding stations or simply relax and enjoy some leisure time spent in nature.
Minimum subscription is £5 per person per month.
Friends of Frugaldom have the opportunity to contribute towards and make use of the huts. Happy hutters can choose between the small 'Unicorn Lodge' or the larger, 'Pine Marten Lodge'. Both are completely off grid with very basic amenities but they are available all year round. Each has its own log burner.
We also offer overnight parking for 3 self-contained campervans / small motorhomes.
Frugaldom is rural without being too remote and is very much about rewilding, nature conservation and the environment. Be part of it, join us and come help or visit whenever you can.

For cat lovers. We monitor and feed the feral cats that frequent the project. There are currently 4 ferals (or strays) being fed and monitored. Grey stripy cat appears to have been part of the capture, neuter, release scheme, evident by the fact that the tip of his left ear is missing. We appreciate your help in keeping our furry feline friends safe and fed. We monitor them with trail cameras regularly and try to provide them with shelter wherever possible. As an unfunded project, all money raised for the cats helps us to cover their feed costs. Photos and videos are uploaded regularly and you are welcome to visit anytime, bring along some food or simply support and observe from afar. Thank you for caring about cats.

By becoming a member of our Pine Marten Project you will be actively supporting the work we do here to encourage, observe and protect pine martens. Tree planting began here in 2014, courtesy of The Woodland Trust and their sponsors awarding us free tree packs annually. We are now seeing the new woodland grow into a diverse habitat that has already attracted pine martens to the site. We need your help to provide serviced feeding stations, nest boxes, trail cams, observation points and associated wildlife surveillance euipment. Members are welcome to join us for scheduled observation evenings, overnights or even weekends recording pine marten activity. Follow the project progress and get regular updates. We have already set up temporary feeding stations for the purposes of monitoring pine marten activity so we know for sure they are here.

Pony Pals help support the cost of keeping the sanctuary ponies at Frugaldom. We currently have 8 ponies in our care, living on track systems with open shelters, being fed hay, haylage and their respective feeds and supplements every day. Our hay/haylage bill alone is over £5,000 per year. The ponies have their hooves trimmed approximately every 6 weeks by a specialist trimmer, their diets are regularly assessed and supplemented on the the recommendation of a fully qualified equine nutritionist. We are always on the lookout for suitable volunteer carers, sponsors, foster homes or long-term homes for rescue ponies.

It costs peanuts to be one of the Frugaldom wildlife supporters because that's what costs us the most. Peanuts have now gone up to £2 or more per kilo even when buying in bulk and we could easily get through that each night. Everything seems to love peanuts. We can attribute the arrival of the pine marten, badger and squirrel to peanuts. Even Vincent Van Goat loves a handful of peanuts now and again and little Dobbin isn't averse to trying to reach the bird feeders if he gets the opportunity. If you can help us fund the peanuts, we will try our best to source them at the best possible price that includes delivery to Frugaldom.

Visit Frugaldom every month throughout the year and spend an overnight in our small hut on wildlife watch. This hut has it's own wildlife feeding stations that are frequented by various wild birds, nice, voles, pine marten and badgers. Our feral cat residents may also pay a visit through the night. Have your camera at the ready as it isn't unusual for the wildlife to come onto the hut decking.

Wildlife watchers can spend a night in our little Unicorn Lodge, which has it's own wildlife feeding stations. It has basic furnishings and a small log burner. This area is frequented by badgers, pine marten and wild birds
Happy hutters become part of our community of friends who support Frugaldom, contributing regularly towards the project and joining us for cabin camping weekends. There's plenty to see and do while here, observing nature, watching for wildlife, helping look after the sanctuary or even taking on a small project of your own while here. It's a very affordable option for those with an interest in the Scottish hutting movement and fabulous opportunity to be part of a great project. We are all volunteers here, caring for nature, the environment and the animals resident at the Frugaldom sanctuary. It's a definite escape to the country with world renowned dark skies for stargazing and the ultimate freedom of frugal living off-grid while here.
