I'm delighted to have exhibited my tapestry collection "Seasons Of The Sea” at Collect Open 2022! I’m hoping to raise around a third of the costs to go towards my place at Collect Open and to share part of the journey and collection with you all.
After studying for a degree in Design for Textiles at university in both Scotland and then Finland I launched Arra Textiles in 2016 at New Designers One Year On. My designs have gone on to become known for colour, complex woven design and a connection to place. With inspiration drawn from ever changing seascapes and landscapes, each piece I create begins in my rural studio on Royal Deeside, from initial design concepts through to hand finished fabrics. I work with all natural fibres as sustainability and traceability are both important to me and have become strong themes found throughout my work. I create colourful, exciting and functional designs which encourage the audience to question the making process and prompt them to want to explore the craft techniques involved by investigating the relationship between the physical craft making process and finished piece.

Collect is one of the world’s most influential fairs focusing on contemporary craft and design and living artists, and takes place each year at Somerset House in the heart of London. Doors will be open to the public from 25-27 February with previews on 23-24 February 2022. My project is rooted in sustainability and will tell a story of three ocean seasons: Oceanic, Winter Storm and Upwelling. I’ve been working on the collection for the past 18 months through both lockdowns and shielding and have handspun then plant dyed the majority of the yarns involved. I’m hoping to raise funds to go towards paying for my project to be exhibited at Collect Open 2022.
