The Rose Street Food Pantry is a public access point for people to get food. It is a free standing 4 level cabinet that is filled with food every day. It's open 24 hours a day.
We created it to support our neighbors who are dealing with the fact that food prices continue to rise. Since it is about food sharing and reduced food waste, our neighbors who have extra resources are invited to drop food off.
This project actively helps to fill the gaps in the food system here. The local food bank is open 6 hours a week. We are open 168 hours a week.
We use donated funds from Ko Fi to buy fresh food from Monterrey Market (like bananas!) and shelf stable food from Trader Joe's. We stock it when we can -- but not every day like before.
Overall, the project is a success because people are finding food there and taking it home.
