In my spare time I have been building mt32-pi, a baremetal Roland MT-32 emulator and SoundFont synthesizer that runs on the Raspberry Pi series of single-board computers. The goal is to build an inexpensive alternative to the original device, so that vintage gaming enthusiasts can enjoy the authentic soundtracks to their favourite games on MS-DOS, PC-98, Sharp X68000, and other retro platforms. For some time now, we've been able to use Linux and Munt to do this, but by bringing Munt to baremetal, we can benefit from lower latency, tighter timings, and a more 'appliance-like' end product that's ready to make music within mere seconds of being powered on, just like the real thing! mt32-pi is already usable and being enjoyed by vintage gaming enthusiasts around the world, but with your help, I can: - Continue improving, testing, and responding to bug reports and feature requests. - Purchase additional electronic components to add support for them and prototype new features such as a physical control panel. - Purchase popular complementary hardware that I don't yet own so that I can work towards ensuring perfect compatibility and deliver the best synthesizer solution for these devices.
