I'd love the book to have a wide reach and to grow empathy and understanding for all those connected to the adoption system. Adoptees are under represented in fiction, and yet they are 20 times more likely to be excluded from school, do half as well as their peers in exams and two thirds of adoptees say that they are teased or bullied at school. I'm an award-winning author & theatre maker from Yorkshire. My current project, Bea's Witch, is very close to my heart. As an adoptive dad, I wanted to write a novel that reflected some of the challenges adoptees face. Bea's Witch (released in July 2021) explores themes of adoption, home, identity, belonging & loss. I also work with schools, giving children space to explore their own experiences through creative writing. --- The future can be rewritten.
