Friends of Frugaldom is our online group for all who want to help support the sanctuary, rewilding and nature projects. Previously clear-felled, the forest land is being planted as native woodland, with the marshland set aside for nature conservation.
Friends of Frugaldom have access to regular updates, news, videos and photos of what's happening behind the scenes and are welcome to visit Frugaldom any time. While here, you can help with the sanctuary animals, carry out wildlife surveillance, do some wildlife gardening, help create new habitat, create wildlife feeding stations or simply relax and enjoy some leisure time in nature.
Minimum subscription is £5 per person per month.
Friends of Frugaldom have the opportunity to contribute towards and make use of the huts. Happy hutters can choose between the small 'Unicorn Lodge' or the larger, 'Pine Marten Lodge'. Both are completely off grid with very basic amenities but they are available all year round. Each has its own log burner and is available for singles or couples cabin camping, wildlife watching or simply relaxing. For our creatives, Frugaldom offers an excellent retreat space for finding inspiration in nature.
We also offer overnight parking for 3 self-contained campervans / small motorhomes.
Frugaldom is rural without being too remote and is very much about wildlife, nature conservation and the environment. Be part of it, join us and come visit whenever you can.

Pony Pals help support the cost of keeping the sanctuary ponies at Frugaldom. The ponies in our care mostly live on track systems with open shelters, being fed hay, haylage and their respective feeds and supplements every day. Our hay and haylage bill alone is over £5,000 per year. The ponies have their hooves trimmed approximately every 6 weeks by a specialist trimmer, their diets are regularly assessed and supplemented on the recommendation of a qualified equine nutritionist. We are always on the lookout for suitable volunteer carers, foster homes, long-term adoption or loan homes or sponsors for the sanctuary ponies.

JOIN US AS WILDLIFE WATCHERS!
You will be welcomed as part of the support group, contributing monthly towards our nature conservation projects. Wildlife watchers can visit Frugaldom anytime throughout the year, help out while here or simply sit back, relax and commune with nature. You can spend time observing wildlife from the comfort of one of the huts, which were built specifically for residential, recreational use. (They are not available for let to the general public.) You are welcome to try overnight cabin camping while wildlife watching. Huts have log burners for heat (you would need to supply your own logs and kindling) and can sleep singles or couples. Each has its own wildlife feeding station nearby that can be observed from the huts. These are frequented by various wild birds, mice, voles, pine marten, fox and badgers. The feral cats may also pay a visit through the night. Have your camera at the ready as it isn't unusual for badgers and pine marten to come onto the hut deckings, meaning they can be very close, within a metre or so, to you. For this reason, we cannot allow dogs (or other pets) inside the huts.
By day, for those interested, there are reptile conservation areas, such as the adder sanctuary. Adders, slow worms and lizards can often be spotted basking in afternoon sunshine. We also provide sanctuary to a pet goat and several rescued, rehomed and retired ponies.

Wildlife watchers can spend a night in our little Unicorn Lodge, which has it's own wildlife feeding stations. It has basic furnishings and a small log burner. This area is frequented by badgers, pine marten and wild birds
Happy hutters become part of our community of friends who support Frugaldom, contributing regularly towards the project and joining us for cabin camping weekends. There's plenty to see and do while here, observing nature, watching for wildlife, helping look after the sanctuary or even taking on a small project of your own while here. It's a very affordable option for those with an interest in the Scottish hutting movement and fabulous opportunity to be part of a great project. We are all volunteers here, caring for nature, the environment and the animals resident at the Frugaldom sanctuary. It's a definite escape to the country with world renowned dark skies for stargazing and the ultimate freedom of frugal living off-grid while here.
