In the spirit of gotong-royong, we hope to unite Malaysian designers in this common goal (#KitaJagaKita). The creative outcome of this initiative is distributing the Gotong-Royong Huruf typeface and new merchandise featuring the typeface in exchange for donations to help those in need to get back on their feet. All proceeds will be donated to Kembara Kitchen, a charity organization that distributes food to the homeless.
We are Huruf – a type collective that strives to encourage greater awareness and inspire interest in typograhy and type design in Malaysia. In the spirit of 'Gotong-Royong' – working together to achieve a common goal – 28 designers from the Malaysian creative industry have come together to create this 'Gotong-Royong Huruf' typeface, with strong local influences. In conjunction with Hari Merdeka and Malaysia Day, we celebrated by giving our beloved country a new (type)face built in the spirit of ‘Gotong-Royong’. Gotong-Royong Huruf is a type design marathon that brought together the Malaysian type community to create a local-inspired typeface. Through this initiative, we explored various interpretations of the Latin alphabet together.
