My new goal of £312 represents the fees I need to keep my website up and running for a whole year. There are so many hidden expenses involved in being a self-employed artist. On top of materials, like paints, paper and canvas, there are packaging materials, stationery, broadband and insurance. These all need paid no matter what. I've chosen my website as a goal because it's the first place my customers go to see my work and it's essential for any visual artist.
I'm Julia, a visual artist and craft-maker, living and working from my home in Scotland. I am a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, where I studied drawing and painting for 4 years. For the past 15 years, I've been a self-employed designer/maker, selling a variety of handmade accessories and quirky animal dolls. Being able to make art is the most important thing in the world to me. It's what gets me out of bed in the morning. Whether I'm working with fabrics or painting, it's how I express myself and I love acquiring new skills.
