After one year as an essential worker in a soul-deadening job in a grocery store to keep the lights on, while editing a Medium publication and finishing a memoir 3 1/2 years in the making - I was offered a 14 cent raise! Umm, yeah, no. I'm transitioning to a life as a full-time writer. If you enjoy my work, please donate what you can to help me continue my editing and writing work. Your support is invaluable and much appreciated. Thank you!
Hello, I'm Lee G. Hornbrook, writer and editor of The Writing Prof on Medium. After 34 years in higher education and almost 25 years of teaching college English, I have given up the shackles of grading to finally pursue my dreams of becoming a writer. I'm working on a memoir, the true tale of how my path to become a professor and writer was thwarted by broken trust, betrayal, mental illness, and the redemption that comes from never giving up. Change is difficult, and transitions are hard. I work a low-wage job to pay the bills. But I hope to transition to full-time freelance writing soon. If you enjoy my work or find it in anyway meaningful and wish to donate to my efforts, you will find a helpful friend and ally in the pursuits of your dreams. Thank you for reading.
