This is to be able to digitalize the pattern for the coat, have it graded into sizes so that another coat can be created smoothly and offered to the world. From woman to woman.
I am an artist based in Sweden, who delve into a multitude of expressions and is right now focusing on a concept I call Her Story. A concept with exhibitions, design, photography and right now a collection of coats based on a thousand year old myth and a pattern from 30’s New York. The whole concept breathe re-cycle with a story to be told - history, pattern and recycled blankets.
An alternative perspective of the Swedish mythology about ”Skogsrået” with the beautiful front, the hollow back and sometimes added tail, was presented by the Swedish author Alice Lyttkens in Svensk Kvinna (1941). When a woman was accused of adultery in the midevial era, her only garment was torn and through the hole showed her bare back, or seen from a far, one could sense a cavity. The woman was sent away, an outcast, and in every village she approached everyone new, due to the tear in her back, what she was accused of and was, subsequently, not welcome. In this way, women tried to survive in the forests, reserved and at the same time in need of contact. Alice Lyttkens suggests a hypothesis that this traditional punishment could be the basis of the myth about Skogrået.
I use this hypothesis as the base in Her Story - The Collections - Skogsrå. A collection of COATS for women where extra ordinary secrets are hidden in the back of the coat. A play with hollow backs and tails that will give the experience of power, history, joy, beauty and perhaps even the sense of restoration for the woman who wear the garment.
This is a collection of coats uniquely made and there are not two alike in the world!
My aim is that surplus from the sales of these coats will go to work with girls and young women, strengthening their self esteem and sense of worth.
This is recycled history embracing the future.
