We’re self-publishing a picture book about a girl and a spider. Would you like to help? Now I know what you're thinking. Spiders are creepy, and crawly, and what-the-heck-are-you-doing-damian-spiders-in-australia-will-eat-your-eyeballs-for-breakfast. For many years I thought that too. But there's many a positive side to these misunderstood and vilified arachnids, and my partner & I are hoping to change a few minds with a picture book. Pledge $25 now (+ postage), and once printed you'll receive a copy of “The Not-So-Scary Huntsman”. The first 35 supporters will also receive a bookmark I'll watercolour by hand as thanks! The story follows a young girl who meets a very big huntsman upon moving to an older house. With themes of changing one’s attitude and respecting nature, our goal is to show insects and spiders in a kinder light. After all, we’re considerably bigger and scarier than they are! The story’s written, and I'm over halfway done the 36+ illustrations. We're also in the process of hand-making toys that feature in the book. I know, I know, merch is a bit naff, but we're making these ourselves, and avoiding exploitative labour wherever possible. To top it off, the books will be printed in Australia, on eco paper! 🍃 We’ve scheduled 3 more months to complete the book, and 1 more for proofing, printing, packaging, etc. Once the art’s complete and we achieve 50% of our goal, it’s off to the local printers! We’ll update everyone as we go ;) You can help fund the printing by pre-purchasing today. I've scheduled to post these out to supporters by late February. Should we not reach our goal, it might just take a bit longer. We've invested too much time and love to allow this project to fall through! We receive the email address associated with your payment, so we can stay in contact, as well as answer any questions you might have. Thank you for your help, and we’d love if you could share this with any spider fans! 🤗🕷 P.S. If you live outside AU or US (i.e. most of the world) and would like to support, just let me know and I'll work out the postal cost ;)
