Kate Finegan weaves how the details of life, intimacy, and nature all intersect, through all various stages of growth, grief, and existence. The repetition of poems’ titles leaves you hungry for more of how Finegan correlates the body with the world and life outside of it and back inward again. Lines such “But this love will not outlive plastic” and “how much of the air I breathe is dust of you” and more will leave you breathless. Ablaze is a chapbook that builds like a crackling flame firmly rooted. While the chapbook itself feels personal and specific to Finegan, she also includes us by giving nostalgic snapshots–moments of life. —Alyssa Cokinis, theatre artist/educator, writer, and EIC/founder of some scripts literary magazine
