The cost is 120-200 euros (pay what you choose, and please reach out if you would like to participate but the cost is a barrier!) -- This course is an exercise in worldbuilding and collective storytelling. During each session, we will read and discuss a short work of speculative or science fiction. In addition to a discussion from a literary perspective, we will also develop, over 6 weeks, a multi-faceted imaginative space. Through individual written exercises, participants can inhabit, explore, and challenge the imaginary worlds proposed by the readings. If you are interested in participating, please be ready to commit to reading 2 short stories at home (which I will send out ahead of time) for each of the middle 5 sessions. Participants are welcome to share the writing from the in-class exercises, but this is optional, and the goal of this writing is as a method of reading, rather than to workshop. The last session is reserved for a collective storytelling exercise, to which we will build up over the course of the 6 weeks. Readings will draw from the work of Ursula K. Le Guin, Amal El-Mohtar, Max Gladstone, Kij Johnson, James Tiptree Jr., and others. Every session will include a combination of classic and more contemporary SF on a theme. These themes are not exhaustive, but explore a wide range.
