Snowflake
Snowflake is a system for getting access to the uncensored Internet. It works by using a network of temporary volunteer proxies (“snowflakes”) that provide a connection to an uncensored network. Using Snowflake is easy: it is a built-in option for censorship circumvention in Tor Browser. Tens of thousands of people daily use Snowflake and Tor Browser to protect their privacy and defeat censorship. Snowflake is free to use—but it still costs money to operate. More and more people are using Snowflake, enough that it now needs a network server upgrade to handle the increasing load. The purpose of this fundraising campaign is to help pay for running a Snowflake bridge—including costs associated with hosting, bandwidth, and maintenance—and provide a basis for sustainability. It is impossible to predict future levels of use, but we estimate that 5000 USD will satisfy near-term needs for a hardware upgrade and cover operating expenses for one bridge installation for a year. This fundraiser is being organized by David Fifield, a volunteer developer. It is one of several initiatives to scale the Snowflake network.
