The Vault began as a collection of Twitter science-fiction based on research articles by Alex Massey, published @tinystoryseeds. Today, the Vault has grown into an independent publisher of micro-science fiction, with writers and readers from all over the globe.
Thank you for (at least thinking about) supporting the Vault! If you've made it this far, you might know a little about what we do - we publish science fiction based on real science.
Who are we? The Vault began as a collection of Twitter science-fiction based on research articles by Alex Massey (me!), published @tinystoryseeds. Inspired by the Global Seed Vaults, I sought to create a collection of stories, sourced from the imaginations of a diverse collection of writer.
Today, the Vault has grown into an independent publisher of micro-science fiction, with writers and readers from all over the globe. We're based online, so our fiction is easily accessible to all, and we're determined to keep it that way. But to do that - we need your help.
Why are we on Ko-Fi? At this stage in our growth, the Vault finds ourselves at a point where we must plan for a sustainable future. Our costs are growing - we're paying for over 100 stories a year and with plans to publish an anthology in the works, we need to begin thinking about our income stream.
We could add a paywall or ads to the site, but frankly - I hate both those options. They disrupt the reader's experience and don't fit our ethics of diverse and accessible fiction. So, we've decided to pursue two avenues: - Donations from Writers & Supporters: We already give writers the option to donate their fee to support the Vault. We want to provide that option to our supporters too! So, we've started a Ko-Fi so that our Writers and Supporters can contribute to running costs and know where their money is going. - Kickstarter: We'll be creating a Kickstarter next year to launch our anthology - watch this space!
