I can narrate you a personal audiobook that is in copyright, but you cannot distribute or sell that book on without permission from the copyright owner. Take your word count, and divide it by 6000. I can narrate at 6000 words/hour. Example: 60,000 words ÷ 6000 = 10 finished hours. (tip: 8 hours is the sweet spot for audiobooks. Your audiobook is more marketable if it’s over 8 hours minimum. This is largely due to the current subscription model of audiobook retailers like Audible. If folks are using a credit, they want to feel like they are getting a good value for their money) Now, take your word count, and multiply it by the PFH (per finished hour) rate of £150 an hour (approx $200) Your 60000 word novel will cost £1500 as a set of mp3 files which will meet the ACX standards should you want to sell the audiobook on Audible. If you do sell the audiobook you must own or have licensed the print copyright. I do not require any further fee if you sell the audiobook.
