VBL often struggles to pay its rent. We are a youth team & grant writing has been tremendously challenging for us. Additionally, our motivation to have all of our offerings & resources be free leaves us without profits through our events etc. We are currently hiring a volunteer grant writer, however, while we wait for grants to roll in, we are still using our personal & limited student funds to keep VBL's doors open. If you have the means to donate, that would mean so much to us! Thank you!
Vancouver Black Library is a library run by Black and BIPOC youth organizers, dedicated to Black and BIPOC community members, and welcome to all! This is a space to not only sign out books for free, this is intended to be used as a study space, a chill space, and a safe space. This initiative is a springboard for other community initiatives like fundraising, childcare, art exhibitions, poetry readings, book clubs, zine making, open jams and more. Vancouver Black library houses a library collection which speaks to our values of uplifting Black education, liberation, community, and joy. It is also one of our goals to offer an extensive lending library of skill developing tools and resources without barriers! You can learn more about us from our instagram @vanblacklibrary!
