The Greenham Common Women's Peace Camp began with a march from Cardiff to Newbury. It took ten days to walk the 110 miles, some pushing children in pushchairs, sleeping in tents and church halls along the way. Their peaceful protest was against nuclear missile placement on British soil and turned into the largest female-led activist movement since suffrage. I photographed the Peace Camp in 1985 while still a photography student, and this autumn I will photograph a new march tracing the original route, and staying in the same areas along the way. Organised to mark 40 years since the protest began and remembering the Greenham Women whose voices have largely been written out of history.
