It's important for me to develop and improve a book as best as I can before releasing it for people to read. Parts of this process are free or can be done by me or with the help of friends, but professional editing and proofreading is costly, even on a reduced rate—thank gods for indie editors! 💜 According to my experience with my first book, this amount is a lower estimate to achieve beta reading and a round of back-and-forth with an editor for a long-ish (~110k words) novel.
