When HBO Max cancelled its hit series Our Flag Means Death, it was an unexpected blow to fans who had championed it from the start. But this show and its fandom are special. It’s not “just” a silly little sitcom about pirates. Beyond the jokes, OFMD explores very human themes on life and love centred around traditionally underrepresented communities: queer people, people of colour, and disabled and neurodivergent people – people who deserve to see characters like themselves on screen. Their stories matter, and that's what makes OFMD not only a good show, but a meaningful one, whose story deserves a proper ending! Our Flag Means Death series 2 is airing in the UK, so we’re fundraising for a new initiative to drive additional traffic to the Save OFMD campaign and show potential networks the kind of reach we have. They would gain a fandom large enough to fund TWO major ad campaigns. We need to get the ad up ASAP so it will be seen while the show is still airing. Help us get the word out! We are committed to being up-front and honest about expenses. For this fundraiser, we have three goal posts that each have subgoals – these will be the order in which we prioritise and spend money. Goal 1: Billboard for 4 days (£9,000 total) A major billboard in London's highly trafficked Leicester Square (Vue Cinema Screen). Our first goal is for 2 days at £4,500. Our ad would be displayed for 10 seconds every 60 seconds. If we can raise a second £4,500, we will add on 2 additional days. If we miss the Leicester Square window, our second choice is at Shoreditch High St, for the same run time at a cost of £4,500 for four days. In that scenario, extra funds will be diverted to the goals that follow. Goal 2: LED Trucks for 3 Days (£1,000 per day + Goal 1 = £12,000 total) The trucks will campaign around each streamer’s London headquarters. In the event of fewer days, our trucks will split their time between the three streamer HQ locations. If we are unable to secure the trucks, any extra funds will be diverted to next goals. Goal 3: London Underground Escalator Ads for £2,000+ Per Day for 2 Days (£4,000 + £12,000 = £16,000+ total) This estimate is wider because it varies by the day of the week and the station. Donations Overages: The first 15% of any donations that exceed expenses will be held for any unexpected line-item costs. If, at the closure of the campaign, any of the excess money remains, it will be donated in equal portions to Mermaids UK, RainbowYOUTH (AoNZ), and Point Foundation (US). Save OFMD loves the work these charities do, and encourages you also to support them as you are able to outside this campaign. Save OFMD will make every effort to adhere to the goals above. However, we reserve the right to adjust the plan to account for changes in availability, pricing, or other Acts of [Buttons] God.
