Have you every had this agonizing thought - What is needed to support our children in this rapidly changing world? How do we stay present in the crisis to not only fight for a livable planet but also ensure our children have the grit and creativity, skills AND love needed to navigate an unpredictable future…all while paying the bills and confronting our own personal issues and despair. As a parent, carer and/or educator, even under normal circumstances it is incredibly challenging to remain regulated enough to support our children. Add in the additional goal to show up for the entire planet and it can be totally overwhelming and you can often feel overshadowed by despair and futility. Our passion and compassion can be lost to dissociation, cognitive dissonance, apathy or reactivity. I have spent the last 20 years gardening with children in an attempt to understand and connect processes across time and space and create the conditions for reemergence of cultures that are connected to and responsive to their biophysical conditions. I feel I have digested, decomposed, distilled and developed enough useful information and practices to share. I have also asked my elders and mentors to contribute including Marcia Bjonerud, Tom Murphy, Andreas Weber, Brandon Ogbunu, Siv Watkins, Fritjof Capra, Henry Gee, Jeremy Lent, Zenith Virago, Glenn Albrecht, Josh Waters, David Holmgren, Laura Jean Mckay, Sophie Strand, David George Haskell, Karen Barad, Morag Gamble and Charlie Massy and other awesome folks to offer insights. It is time to share it as far and wide as possible and this is your opportunity to be part of making this happen. Your support will enable us to reassess, redesign, and release all of the teaching resources we have created as part of Foodweb Education as well as the incredible contributions from the minds and hearts of geologists, evolutionary biologists, astrophysicists, First Nations scholars, activists, artists, philosophers, microbiologists and the list goes on. Here is our promise to our children: We will do whatever it takes to nurture an intimate understanding of the beauty, the capacity and the limits of our planet; acquire the confidence and skills to be creative with that knowledge; and come to live within earth's bounds to the enduring benefit of all life. We have all been gifted the privilege of life which should mean we learn how life and our world works. We should also be provided opportunities to feel a part of it and be able to make decisions that ensure life on earth is nurtured not destroyed. Humans thrive when we live in and create cultures that are connected to and responsive to our biophysical conditions. This is the foundation of our garden-based program for children called Foodweb Education and the driver behind our latest offering for parents and educators called Here.We.Are. We need your help with: Reframing and redeveloping the Foodweb Education curriculum and pedagogy. Creating Here. We. Are. video and audio content. Releasing an open source website for the sharing of our ecological literacy program Foodweb Education resources. Releasing Here We Are recordings from academics, educators, scientists, artists, activists dedicated to this work. Creating a community for sharing, learning and unlearning together. Your ongoing contribution will enable us to make this happen and you will be a founding member of Here We Are. If you are interested in actively participating, contact us on info@foodwebeducation.com. Here We Are making it happen - thank you
