Donations go to the current issue's contributors until a month after publication, at which point we disburse the money and start fundraising for the next issue. Whether you're supporting future or past writers, you're helping give the remarkable work we publish a home. The Hypocrite Reader is an online leftist magazine founded in Brooklyn in 2011. We now publish biannually, each January and July, and every issue is centered around a theme. In the 97 issues since 2011, we've run essays from the personal to the theoretical on politics, history, culture, and science, as well as poems, short stories, and artworks. We look for contentious writing that changes the way we think and feel. Such writing is rare and valuable. It often requires research and always demands careful thought. The Hypocrite Reader is run by a volunteer team of editors, and we are committed to paying our contributors.
