When I was working as a writer in the video game industry, interactive fiction always struck me as the genre of gaming that should be most accessible to everyday writers. It's entirely text-based, after all — so in theory, any writer of any skill level SHOULD be able to write these games. Better yet, they should be able to sell them! The problem is, there are no tools for writers to do so. While there are some awesome game dev tools out there (yes, we all love Twine!), even those tools require a 'programmer' mindset. There are commands to learn, modules, flow charts. You can't just sit down and write; you can't get into a flow. Game developers who aren't intimidated by coding or programming can use these tools. Writers who push through and learn the various programming skills can try to use these tools. But the average writer often doesn't have the ability or desire to learn programming; they just want to write. I know that's what I wanted! So, when I couldn't to find a tool that would allow me to do so, I decided to build one. After raising funds from friends & family, I now have a completed beta software currently undergoing testing! Once the beta testing is complete, we will be ready to launch the platform publicly. The problem is, during the testing and building process, there are still overhead costs: bookkeeping fees, platform fees, data storage fees, and the like. These are the overhead costs Iffly needs help with while we finish the tool and work towards building revenue. I believe in supporting writers. I want Iffly to be a community, to give writers a powerful tool to help them in their creativity and careers. That is the vision; that is the north star which will drive our growth and focus.
