Paying it forward
Now, as we settle into this new way of living, I plan to spend some time working on my new project for an exhibition that I hope will take place towards the end of the year. I also hope to begin plans for FIFTY BEES 2021, to begin coordinating and supporting the next fifty artists and paying it forward.
Hello I am Lydia, the Lead Artist and Curator of the ongoing collaborative creative project ‘FIFTY BEES: The Interconnectedness of All Things’. It was conceived in 2017 in order to use art to highlight the status of the British bee population and how endangered it is. I am a teacher and designer of blackdogandgingercat needlefelt kits and a proud member of Society for Embroidered Work and Just a Card supporter.
Thank you so much to everyone who has stopped by to see what it is that I actually do. And perhaps even why I might need a Ko-Fi. Well, like many people, I juggle several roles and wear multiple hats. I have a part-time job, run a small business as well as my own art practice and I lead an ongoing collaborative creative project called ‘FIFTY BEES: The Interconnectedness of All Things’. For this, I am responsible for the organization, planning and administration, and communicating with and mentoring many of the artists, some of whom are emerging artists. When Covid-19 reared its ugly head, I had no idea how I was going to financially survive. I seriously thought that my little business would fold – no great loss to the world but it is only through this business that I support my art practice and the FIFTY BEES project. However, even when I was thinking that my business might I fold, I decided I really needed to do something to help someone else at this time of crisis. So, I sent out free needlefelt kits to key workers, self-isolators or people who were generally having a hard time. The kind Ko-Fi donations that came in at that point helped to cover some of the costs of materials and postage. Kits were sent out to lots of people and hopefully they have enjoyed working with wool as a relief to the concerns of the world. Now, as we settle into this new way of living, I plan to spend some time working on my new project for an exhibition that I hope will take place towards the end of the year. I also hope to begin plans for FITY BEES 2021, to begin coordinating the fifty new artists. I really appreciate any and all support that you give me so that I can support others through the FIFTY BEES project and continue the idea of ‘paying it forward’. Thank you xxx
