On the Mend will pay contributors $75 per page, for a total of 20 pages (including front and back covers). A quarter of the budget will pay the editors and graphic designers. If we surpass the $2000 goal before issue 2 comes out, that’s amazing! Those funds will go towards issue 3 as I continue writing grants, collecting materials, and communicating with future contributors. Thank you to YoungArts for the initial funding of the Dyeing issue!
On The Mend is a zine about the life cycles of clothing and textiles. The zine exists to teach people where their clothes came from, how they were made, who made them, how to care for them, how to recycle, reuse, and part with them. The fashion industry thrives on cheap, exploitative labor, an incomprehensible amount of waste, and secrecy. On The Mend will serve to educate its readers by exposing the secrets of the fast fashion industry, celebrating the history of cloth and craft, and providing accessible, tangible actions against fast fashion in every issue. We are currently fundraising and seeking contributors for On The Mend issues 1 & 2: Darning & Dyeing, with launch dates of May 31, 2022 and July 2022 :) If you are interested in contributing, please fill out the contributor application linked below.
