Grandmother Manya lives in a small village in Polesse (a region in the south of modern Belarus). She is also known in the village as "the morgue director" as she is the only person who carries the knowledge and traditions of the local burial rituals. People in the village live their lives: they distill moonshine, dig potatoes, and discuss politics and everyday life in their own language. Golya, Manya's granddaughter, described this everyday life in the form of dialogues in the Opol language. Golya z Opolya is a blogger and an author currently residing in New Zealand but was born and raised in the village of Opol. The book features artworks by contemporary Belarusian artist Masha Maroz. Masha Maroz is an interdisciplinary artist, ethnographer, designer, and the founder and curator of the Past Perfect platform, dedicated to preserving and popularising Belarusian ethnographic heritage. Divided into two parts, the book presents the nonfictional story in one of the unique micro-languages from the Poless’e region, alongside its English translation. Masha Maroz has created original visual artworks to illustrate the story. In addition, the book features photographs taken during the artist’s expeditions to the many villages in the Belarusian region of Poless’e, providing an intimate, unique insight into the book's narrative context and the unique culture of the region. Crowdfunding will last 2 months. The publication of the book is scheduled for May-June. Beginning of the delivery - end of May-June.
