Please read this entire listing carefully as I have a strict • no refunds • policy for digital downloads or patterns for any reason. Though if you have any issues, please do message me and I'll see if I can make it right. Please also, read carefully the copyright notice at the bottom of this listing as in purchasing this pattern you agree to these terms. • • • What are these patterns? • • • I drafted these patterns from scratch, from a 1950s house dress in my collection, with the idea that I wanted an underarm shield that was effective, sturdy, and - even though no one would be seeing them - elegant. These aren't your grandma's underarm shields. (It's all about the details for me, always.) These started out as hand drawn patterns and I worked them up all the way to professionally polished, digitized patterns and even put together a concise video tutorial showing you step by step how to easily put them together. My goal is to make this pattern accessible to every level of sewist - whether you're a visual learner or instructions reader, I've tried to make it as easy as possible to quickly learn to sew these. *Though please note: these patterns do assume a level of knowledge of sewing, so although I've made them as easy to understand as possible, please do have a foundational knowledge of sewing. Pro tip! The best laundry hack is prevention! For all info on these shields in one place: sultryvintage.com/-underarm-shields- Purchasing this listing gives you access to patterns for: • Regular, Fold-Over Underarm Shields, Size Small & Medium. • Sleeveless / Cap Sleeve Underarm Shields, Size Small & Medium. (Sleeveless & Cap Sleeve are one pattern with duel uses.) • 4 Pattern variations / sizes in total • • • • Why are dress shields essential? • • • Our grandmother's knew how to take care of clothes and cut down on both the wear and tear of their beautiful garments but also cut out extra wash work. Underarm shields were once a standard part of our wardrobes - along with slips - meant to protect our gorgeous clothes from sweat stains, deodorant buildup, and needing to treat them with extra laundering once stained. (As well as deter sweat stains from showing through garments while we're wearing them.) They've fallen out of broad, common use but I believe them to be an absolute essential when wearing gorgeous vintage or high end clothes. Sweat stains & underarm products can damage and destroy fabric over time, so why not take a small step toward protecting them, saving them from the damage of over washing, and saving yourself time and work in the process - an ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure, et al. • • • Underarm shield benefits: • • • • Deters sweat and underarm products from reaching your garment which means less damaging washing for delicate garments. These shields can be washed by tossing them into the washing machine on delicate cycle (recommended) or by hand washing. (The degree to which these protect your garments from sweat entirely depends on your own body's perspiration levels and cannot be evaluated or guaranteed by me here because of this variable.) • I know for me personally some of my garment fabrics show sweat immediately while worn (looking at you chambray) so this helps prevent those embarrassing sweat marks from happening. (Esp when worn with a slip!) Thank you so much for considering your purchase of these underarm shields I've designed. Your keeping these for your personal use helps support my hard work that went into designing them, testing them repeatedly, and creating a video tutorial. If you think someone else would benefit from these, please encourage them to purchase the pattern as well or be awesome and gift them the purchase of this listing :) Copyright © Sultry Vintage, 2022. Please see full copyright notice and terms of use at the end of this listing as • purchase of this listing is an agreement to those terms. • • • • This listing is for a digital download of these patterns and instructions • • • This listing is solely for a digital download of the instructions sheet and printable pattern pieces for my size small & medium underarm shields, both regular design and sleeveless. They will need to be printed on your end, if you don't have access to a printer and would like a physical packet please read on. They are downloaded in two zipped files - 5 pages of instruction sheets and 6 pattern pages for the regular shields, 4 pages of instruction sheets and 2 pattern pages for the sleeveless / cap sleeve shields - 17 pages total (though you don't necessarily need to print the instruction pages). They are meant to be printed on standard size printer paper and there's no taping together of pieces necessary. If you don't have access to a printer, any print center such as Staples can print these for you. Please be sure to read instructions on printing to ensure you're printing them to accurate size. • • • Notes on fit • • • The fit of these is what I would consider generally universal. I say generally as there are some unique armhole shapes to garments out there that I can't account for when making a pattern that is meant to fit a more standard, rounded armhole. I've tested these finished shields in every garment in my closet and they fit beautifully in all of them with a rounded armhole (note: lighter weight / sheer garments should have shields made with super lightweight fabric). I can't guarantee that they will 100% perfectly fit all of your garments but they were designed to get as close as possible. If you're new to underarm shields they do take a bit of getting used to, but once you start using them you'll realize how essential they can be. They're drafted from a dress with a 36" bust and fit my garments ranging in size from 34" bust to 38" bust. They cover a decent range of the under arm and as much as the sleeve as possible while also keeping it functional with range of motion in mind (please secure all snaps & pins with range of motion in mind as well). • • • Measurements & other Specs • • • See photos for finished measurements. These are designed for three ply protection - an outer shell and an inner layer meant to act as an absorbent layer. My fabric recommendations that I personally use are in the pattern instructions, though you can make them out of any fabric of your choosing. • • • Terms of Use / Copyright Notice: • • • This pattern is not approved for commercial use.
