During the medieval period, monks made every single book, from the preparation of the book itself to the ink on the pages. In order to stave off the boredom of copying text by hand, many monks amused themselves by sketching silly animals in the margins. These illustrations are known as marginalia today. The pattern includes detailed instructions, stitch explanations and an outline of the project ready to be transferred to your fabric.
