UPDATED 7/18/23: Improved pattern for clarity as well as hat sizing. If you previously purchased this pattern and have issues downloading the new version please let me know and have your original order number ready! Pattern(s) ONLY! This is NOT a physical hat. It is the PATTERN. It is a KNITTING PATTERN. Two patterns in one! If you purchase this item it will be immediately available for you to download as a PDF file, which can be opened with Adobe Reader. The awesome PDF file explains how to make these TWO (2) pretty easy beanies that feature either an apatosaurus (maybe brontosaurus) or a t-rex. The PDF includes the colorwork charts. Pattern is in US English. Skills Needed • knitting in the round (rnd) • colorwork knitting Abbreviations • k: knit • k1p1: knit 1, purl 1 • k2tog: knit 2 together • Rnd/rnds: round/rounds • CO: cast on TOOLS AND MATERIALS • US size 7 and size 9 circular needles (whatever length you’re most comfortable with) - you’ll be knitting in the round o Using two (2) sets of needles is optional, but people seem to prefer the brim to be a little tighter than the body. You can change up the needle sizes to make slight size adjustments. 6s for the brim also work fine, but you may want to add an additional row of ribbing. • US size 9 DPNs (4 of them) – or whatever size you used for the body of the hat • worsted weight yarn in at least two (2) colors referred to as MAIN COLOR (MC) and BACKGROUND (BG) • yarn needle, for closing the top • crochet hook (optional, for weaving in ends) • a stitch marker (optional, but recommended for the crown) Gauge: As patterned, you’ll have approximately 4 sts/inch and 5 rows/inch for the body of each hat. This gives you a pretty average adult-sized hat. When lying flat, a long neck hat measures about 10.5” long and 10” across. It will stretch up to about 12” or a little more (20-24” circumference). The t-rex hat is a smidge smaller, coming in at 9.5” across and about 10” tall, stretching to about 11.5” (around a 23” circumference). If you want to attempt a smaller size of either hat, try dropping a needle size or two for the body and/or using sport or DK yarn. The patterns are pretty stretchy but still be careful with your tension! ** There are NO REFUNDS for PATTERN purchases. **
