From the insert: The images in this paper sculpture are all stills from a series of jam sessions I did using the EAB Videolab, a video synthesizer system from the 1970s. I was lucky enough to spend a few hours with this machine that works as an instrument to generate colors, squiggles, and fuzzy feedback without using a camera, just patching video signals into each other over and over again. I was excited to use this older analog technology to create images. Having a dedicated machine to improvise hues, shapes, and movement allowed for a whole different set of discoveries than using a computer or smartphone – devices I associate more with surveillance, commerce, and my ever-shortening attention span than self-expression. This footage sat on a hard drive for months until the idea for this book project came about. Starting with the analog video synth then printing with the risograph is like time travel through these older processes. I am really happy to have a way to bring the images back to life, using still images from the video to create an object that can unfold and bounce around on its own, it becomes a kind of re-animation. —Mike Stoltz Pegacorn Press First Edition of 225 Risograph printed by Knust in Nijmegen, The Netherlands Produced in Pittsburgh, PA Winter 2023 Shipping prices are currently only listed for the United States.
