On the new CD of the Voktett Hannover old and new music sound side by side in a dialogue spanning the ages. Four contemporary works by Alberto Arroyo, Friederike Bernhardt, Max-Lukas Hundelshausen and Shadi Kassaee are placed between the five movements of Hans Leo Hassler’s Missa Octo Vocum. Both textually and musically, these works are committed to the themes of transience and insecurity in a time of crisis, but also to the personal experiences of the composers, their views and insights, and the hopes and longings of the crisis-ridden days at times of Covid-19, including the longing for human closeness and contact. 1.
