"R U Trying To Kill M.E?" is a zine working through the crip and mad experience via the healing magic of music. Using DIY crafting and collaging style to express the combined experience of the monotony, trauma and pain that comes with being a Mad Cripple. A zine if you want to feel seen and vent your anger. This zine is dedicated to my friend Jen. Jen is my Goth Queer Crip Auntie going through the mill like most of us. Jen has Endo, M.E, Adenomyosis, hyper-mobility (likely hEDS), chronic pain, POTS, Fibromyalgia, IBS, Asthma, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Coccydynia, cluster headaches, Osteoporosis, CPTSD, OCD and is currently recovering from a broken leg (which she didn’t know was broken and walked around on it for a week, the usual for us with chronic pain!) She is unapologetically fat, disabled and queer. I made this zine with the theme of music because Jen exudes queer crip music community in my mind. She is self defined as 80% bedbound, and uses mobility aids like a walking stick, crutches, or wheelchair depending on the day. She is so unapologetically herself and makes me laugh so much when I can wrangle her into a text conversation or video call. And she is one of the most vocal people I know on the topic of de-gendering health conditions as "not everyone who has endo is female" and it can be a barrier to diagnosis and care for many people. Jen is on the waitlist for endo surgery and trying to keep on top of her pain at home, with her consent (and some of her participation too) I’m using this zine as a mutual aid fund where we will split the earnings between us. There are no strings attached or requirements for the money Jen will get from these sales, I believe in having the agency to decide for oneself where the funds would be best used. I just want to help ease Jen’s and her family's minds a little. If you want to learn more about Jen, you can check her out on IG @DizzySpook where she posts some life things, but mostly music, fashion, cats, tattoos, and political shit.
