There are numerous cults commonplace in India, while not acknowledged as sects, through which the worship of some aboriginal deity is acknowledged in all its crudeness devoid of much admixture of philosophy, the only real change becoming which the deity is referred to as a form, incarnation or servant of some effectively-acknowledged god and that Brahmans are related using this worship. This pattern of absorbing aboriginal superstitions materially lowers the average amount of creed and ritual. An informed Brahman would chortle at the idea that village superstitions may be taken very seriously as faith but he won't condemn them and, as superstitions, he won't disbelieve in them.
