Shepherd Park Garden

This page is to help support my efforts to nurture our park into a beautiful and bountiful garden that serves all who visit. It is hard to tell just how much has been planted, but it takes truckloads of plant material to plant in a way that is clean and intentional enough to be protected from traffic and maintenance. As of Sep 2021 I have grown, purchased, found, or been gifted all of the plant material so far and I would like to open up an avenue for individuals to donate funds to help me purchase "wish list" plant material and support my efforts. For me it all started with planting a few pecan trees in the park on New Years Eve 2019. I felt a wonderful potential that someday children would climb on their branches and gather their nuts. I had found a connection to my purpose. After a few months of working in the park an elderly woman came over to me with her daughter. They recalled that the park was once a forest with a pond and trails through the woods where the daughter would pick flowers and explore as a child. They explained that the park was donated to the city to be preserved as a wooded nature space, but over the years the shrubs were all removed and droughts and maintenance practices removed trees and turned meadows into lawn. It helped me to see the soul of the space and it's potential. It also concentrated my efforts and strengthened my belief in the purpose of this work. My goal is not to rebuild what has been lost, but rather to grow into a new future(a new garden) that embraces and reflects the needs and desires of the community. Thank you so much for your support.
