Shakespeare Walk Adventure Playground (SWAPA) in Hackney, N16 is a place where children and young people run the show, and have been since 1976!  Adventure playgrounds were first introduced as a post-war effort to create safe and enriching environments for children to explore and build their own play spaces, often initially based on old bomb sites. With decades of rich memories under it's belt, SWAPA is as much loved now as it has ever been. We are keeping the traditional adventure playground spirit alive. Our team of experienced and qualified Playworkers are on hand to facilitate child-led play for 6-15 year olds, free of charge. Here children can run, jump climb, make a noise, make music, make a mess and a masterpiece, make friends, bake biscuits or a full main meal, build a den, make a campfire, make a movie and follow their own interests in their own ways. SWAPA is supported by Hackney Council who provide about half of the money needed for SWAPA to run at it's best. Many of our play structures are in need of some love, our fence needs replacing and we are eager to support the current community of users to make their mark on the space.
