'The Medusa Box' tells the story of two mismatched hobbyists on a quest across Dartmoor to uncover the secret of 'The Elusive Medusa'. The innocent past time of Letterboxing, along with the stunning scenery of Dartmoor, forms the backdrop to a twisting tale of unhealthy obsessions and sinister secrets, one that will appeal to anybody with an appetite for mysteries and perhaps a little of the macabre. While a standalone feature in it's own right, 'The Medusa Box' will also serve as a pilot episode of sorts - with the aim to continue telling more twisted folklore tales in a genre anthology series - provisionally titled 'Darkmoor'. So far we have filmed some small sections of the film including 'The Medusa Box Prologue', which is currently appearing in film festivals. (I will keep you updated with festival screenings) The feature length version of The Medusa Box is scripted and ready to go, with plans to shoot the final phase of production in Autumn 2024 but is completely dependent on raising our target budget of a minimum of £30,000. (The more money we can raise the better). This may sound like a lot of cash, but to put it into perspective, The Medusa Box Prologue would have cost around £8,000 to shoot if the cast and crew had been paid. Instead they worked for free because of their passion for and belief in this project. ( I did provide sandwiches, cake and hot tea on set :) ) I am keen to pay cast and crew for the man shoot, as the conditions will be tricky up on the moor and the shoot will take around 10 days, weather depending. Also, I believe artists should be paid for their work, just like any other trade would. Your support means everything, and as a Medusa Box Ko‑fi one-off supporter, or monthly member, you are playing a part in keeping the legacy of folk horror alive, and writing the wonderful world of Letterboxing into the history of Dartmoor folklore for all time. Thank you :) x
