My Goal is to raise awareness and hopefully money for both charities that allows more safe environments to be created, more resources provided to help parents, carers, colleagues and friends help a young person in need. In 2015 I took part in a two year investigatory welfare post in professional sport that changed my life forever. Witnessing first hand how minors and adolescents encountered a distinct lack of trauma support that lead to destructive coping mechanisms which in many instances resulted in suicide, severe self harm or permanent illness. In 2023, we had seen 6 athletes in our SEC sports programs take their own lives, then witnessing, as staff, the resulting heartache and trauma these moments leave behind, the need for open communication environments, safe spaces to talk through thoughts and fears becomes more important.
