This is a miniature hand-embroidered artwork of a spring azure butterfly and speedwell blossoms. The butterfly is stitched at life-size, and is completely embroidered by hand using a technique known as thread-painting, or silk shading--a style of embroidery in which I use the stitches like brushstrokes. Dimension: approx. 6" diameter (framed) Materials: Cotton and polyester sewing thread, cotton fabric, wood Colors: blue, purple, white, green Designer: A.S. Galbraith Frame made by Three Inches Hand Embroidery About this embroidery. "When I was a kid, I loved following these tiny butterflies as they skipped along, close to the ground. Spring Azures is one of the earliest butterflies to come out in the spring. I chose this patterned fabric, as it reminded me of the grasses that the butterflies would skip across. I added the speedwell blossoms, as they are such cute little flowers that grow low to the ground and dot the grass with their pretty periwinkle petals. I stitched the butterfly lifesize on two layers of printed cotton fabric." It is stitched on two layers of high-quality printed cotton fabric using cotton and polyester sewing thread and framed in a handmade wooden veneer frame. (The frame is designed and made by Three Inches Hand Embroidery.) A Certificate of Authenticity comes with the piece. The piece itself is 6 inches in diameter. It is ready to be hung with the sawtooth hanger attached to the back. Keep artwork out of direct sunlight to prevent the fading of fabric and thread colors. ******Note****** It is essential to avoid touching the embroidery or fabric. Finger oils can stain or discolor and degrade the fabric and thread. Handle using the wooden frame it's mounted in. © A.S.
